The department of theory and history of the state and law

The Department of Theory and History of the State and Law was created at the same time with the Institute of National and International Law. The department provides basic training for students from the very first day because the mastery of basic knowledge in history and theory of law is a key to successful understanding of specific disciplines in future.
The Department staff uses wide experience of the Odessa School of Law in their research and studies, works with related departments of the “Odessa Law Academy” National University, the Higher School of Economics (Moscow), the “Kyiv-Mohylyanska Academy” National University, Kiev National University of Internal Affairs, and other higher education institutions.
The professionalism of a lecturer is linked with creative approach in developing new directions of their work, so the members of this Department use innovative forms and methods of work in the educational process and research. Only in recent years such courses as “The interpretation of legal acts” (Prof. A. F. Kryzhanovsky) and “Legalization as a legal procedure” (Associate Prof. D. G. Manko) have been developed for the first time in Ukraine and intruduced in the Master Programs.
Today the department staff embodies the optimal ratio of researchers and lecturers.
It should be emphasized that the department staff are also co-authors of such editions as the “The Law of Ukraine” edited by Academician S. V. Kivalov, “The General Theoretical Jurisprudence” edited by Corresponding Fellow of the Law Academy of Sciences Y. N. Oborotov.
The important focus of the department is to prepare graduates for postgraduate research. Under the guidance of Professors N. N. Krestovskaya, Y. N. Oborotov, A.F.Kryzhanovsky, Associate Professor N.I.Dolmatova the postgraduate research work is performed by eight postgraduate students and applicants.
